Most entrepreneurs think successful business owners have everything figured out. They imagine someone with a carefully crafted business plan, a clear vision, and the confidence to pursue it without hesitation.
But that's rarely how entrepreneurship begins.
More often, it starts with uncertainty. A career change. An unexpected challenge. A conversation. An opportunity you never saw coming. Sometimes, all it takes is one small decision to completely change the direction of your life.
That's exactly what happened to Jennifer Lanza.
After spending 25 years building a successful career, Jennifer unexpectedly found herself starting over. Like many people facing a major life transition, she had to reinvent herself professionally. She entered the world of real estate and, for the first time, became self-employed. It was a leap into the unknown, but one that quietly built something even more valuable than a new career. It built confidence.
Around that same time, Jennifer was facing another challenge: her health.
She wasn't searching for a fitness studio. She exercised at home with YouTube videos and never imagined herself joining group fitness. Then a friend invited her to try a free Oxygen Yoga & Fitness class. She said yes.
That one decision changed everything.
What began as a workout became a completely different path—one she never could have planned.
The Good
Jennifer regained her energy, improved her mobility, became stronger, and started feeling like herself again.
But the biggest transformation wasn't physical. It was the people.
The instructors inspired her. Fellow members became friends. Oxygen became a place she genuinely looked forward to visiting. A place where she felt encouraged, supported, and connected.
As entrepreneurs, we often focus on the product or service we're selling.
Jennifer's story is a reminder that sometimes the greatest value a business creates isn't what it offers—it's how it makes people feel.
This passion is what inspired Jen to pursue building an Oxygen Yoga & Fitness franchise to bring this experience to others.
The Bad
Every entrepreneur has moments that never make it onto social media.
The sleepless nights. The self-doubt.
The moments when you wonder if you've made the wrong decision.
Jennifer's story began with uncertainty.
After twenty-five years in one career, she suddenly found herself rebuilding her professional life while navigating personal health challenges at the same time.
Those experiences weren't setbacks.
They became the foundation that prepared her for what came next.
It's often the difficult chapters... the ones we'd rather skip... that shape us into the entrepreneurs we're meant to become.
The Hustle
Today, Jennifer is in one of the most exciting and busiest chapters of her journey.
While continuing her real estate career, she's bringing a brand-new vision to life as she prepares to open Oxygen Yoga & Fitness Annex in Toronto's Annex neighbourhood on September 14. Currently, the studio is still under construction, with the finishing touches being added before its opening day.
Ironically, owning a fitness studio was never part of her plan. Instead, her journey unfolded one opportunity at a time. A career change taught her how to build a business. A free fitness class transformed her health. A welcoming community inspired a new dream. And that dream became a business.
It's a fantastic reminder that entrepreneurship isn't about predicting the future.
It's about staying open to possibility.
Sometimes the best opportunities don't arrive looking like business opportunities at all. Sometimes they arrive disguised as an invitation, a challenge, or a simple decision to try something new.
If you're waiting until you have the perfect plan before taking the first step toward your dream, you may be waiting forever.
The best business opportunities are rarely part of the plan. They're discovered because someone was willing to take the next step anyway.
