Why post-launch testing is necessary and 5 key categories to check:

1. Content Quality and Usability

Writers and editors play an important role in the Website Testing Checklist process. They ensure the content is well-written, engaging, and relevant to your audience while maintaining consistency, clarity, and grammatical accuracy for the best user experience.

Writer/Editor Checklist:

1. Spelling, Grammar, and Punctuation:

  • Conduct a site-wide review for spelling errors, typos, and grammatical mistakes using automated tools (like Grammarly) and manual checks.

  1. Forms and User Interactions

Test all forms by filling them out and submitting them:

  • Is the process smooth and intuitive?

  • Are the instructions clear and easy to follow?

  • Do all form fields function correctly?

  • Is the confirmation message appropriate, and does the form submission go to the correct recipient?

  • Are automated email confirmations being sent, if applicable?

  1. Content Flow and Readability

Review each page from the visitor’s perspective:

  • Is the content clear, concise, and engaging?

  • Does the page align with the target audience’s needs?

  • Are calls-to-action (CTAs) clear and effective?

  • Is the content easily scannable (using bullet points, subheadings, etc.)?

  • Do all internal and external links work? (No broken links!)

  • Ensure external links open in a new browser tab, ensuring they can still access your website.

2. SEO Basics – On-Page Optimization

Ensuring your website is SEO-friendly.

SEO Checklist:

  • Perform keyword research for every page using tools like SEMrush’s magic keyword tool.

  • Integrate keywords naturally within the content.

  • Write clear and relevant SEO titles.

  • Ensure each page has a unique meta title and description optimized for search engines.

  • Include 3-5 targeted keywords in the page copy.

  • Add Alt Tags to all images for accessibility and SEO.

  • Use internal links for better navigation and SEO impact.

  • Test mobile responsiveness on Android, iPhone, and tablets.

  • Utilize free online SEO tools like Ahrefs’ free SEO tools to improve keyword strategy.

3. Web Design and Technical Performance

Using templates makes designing a website easier, but continual testing ensures consistency, usability, and alignment with business goals.

4. Cross-Device and Cross-Browser Compatibility

  • Ensure the website looks and functions properly across all major browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge) and devices (mobile, tablet, desktop).

5. Design Elements to Check:

1. Typography and Fonts

  • Ensure font styles and sizes are consistent site-wide.

  • Verify that special characters and icons render correctly across all devices.

2. Images and Media

  • Optimize images for fast load times (compressed JPEG/PNG, keeping file sizes under 500KB where possible).

  • Confirm that images are not pixelated or stretched and that embedded videos function correctly across devices.

3. Performance and Load Speed

4. Accessibility Compliance

  • Test for compliance with accessibility standards using tools like the WAVE Accessibility Evaluation Tool.

  • Ensure smooth keyboard navigation and that screen readers can interpret the site properly.
